Tomanita II - Bokö anchorage

After a short break in Stockholm, we joined the fleet again in Saltsjöbaden for the last two legs down to Moen. First anchorage was Ringsöarna, a lagoon that will take several hundreds of boats in summer time. Southerly winds meant a lot of tacking, but this is to be expected for the rest of the trip. Waking up in the lagoon with water as a mirrow, we set course for Bokö Hamnvik , our next stop – we thought...

As we approached the inlet to Bokö, we touched a rock, a place where we have been so many times before! Of course, Anita was totally unprepared and fell down from the cockpit and hit her face against the saloon table. We anchored and the costguard helped Anita to hospital for care. So, this is where such a fine sailing in the Rally had to end – we have no chance of catching up, no matter how much Anita wanted to! She is okay, but bruised. Luckily enough, we already sailed to Kalmar and Klintholm on our way down to Kiel so we don´t miss too much – apart from the Rally of course!

We know that one must always be observant when aproaching an anchorage, and always to be seated to avoid damages. But when one has done this route so many times before, it´s so easy to be distracted and to feel safe. That´s when the accident occurs! After 32 years of sailing, one ought to have learnt something!?

Thank You World Cruising for arranging ARC Baltic Rally! And even greater thank you to Hans, Cecilie and Joel who has made it possible for so many to experience sailing in Scandinavia. Without their commitment and willingness to help it had been much harder for many of us to have time to enjoy the stops.

Rally Friends! It has been a great sailing together. Good luck on your last leg. If you plan to come back to sail in the Stockholm archipelago sometime in the future, it would be nice meeting you again!
