Nexus - Mariner's Cave

We met up with an Australian couple and, together with Vivo, cruised south with them, enjoying their local knowledge as well as making new friends! We stopped to snorkel into Mariner's Cave, which is an underwater cavern filled with air that can be entered by snorkeling through an opening about 10' down on a cliff face. It took a bit to find it, but once we did we enjoyed exploring it in shifts. It was simply magic to swim into it, and enjoy the soft glow of sunlight coming up from the water. It has a strange phenomenon inside..when each wave hit the face of the cave, the pressure rose inside and our ears would feel the pressure a bit, but also the air inside would turn instantly foggy, then instantly clear, as the pressure went above and below the dew point. It was really cool. The swim inside and out is about 10' down and about 20' into the cave, it can easily be done by any competent snorkeler and we highly recommend it! The location is marked wrong on the charts, so for the benefit of other cruisers; the GPS coordinates are 18 41.450'S;174 04.480'W, and the cliff face above it has a flat section that looks like an eyebrow, with a little tint of white across it, and some orange bits on the north end of it. You can bring the boat right up to within 10M of the cliff face and jump in to find it by snorkel. Enjoy!
