Defyr - Towards Azores: Last Nite

It's hopefully our last night at sea and we are able to make it to Horta before sunset tomorrow. My last night shift is the darkest possible 00-03, but the night is clear and the horizon visible, so it's all good.

I am also given a nature's special treat with dolphins in bioluminescent sea! The dolphins are swimming next to Defyr leaving a britht sparkly trail behind them. It looks so amazing, kind of like a movie special effect, but for real. I have seen this once before last time we crossed the Atlantic, but it was not this strong and not so many dolphins! I am so happy to witness this and would hope to have all my family and friends here gasping to this sight. On camera it's just black on black...

We have had the genaker up since sunday morning and the wind is getting calmer and calmer. I am able to keep it just over 6,5 knots right now. I am not a big fan of the genaker during the nights by myself, since I don't really know how to use it properly. Sure I chose the colors for it, but it tends to go all flippety floppety on me everytime I try trim it. So I just don't touch the whole damn thing and concentrade on buying trains on my Ticket To Ride game app instead! (Yes, our autopilot actually works well with the genaker, phew!)

Today we have been dreaming about things ashore. I think mainly everyone is thinking of a HOT shower! I am also dreaming of sleeping properly for 12 hours and geocaching and RUNNING. Ansgar keeps talking about cheese and bread. And proper Jonagold apples and other fresh fruit.

This Sunday has been the best day so far, with nice calm sea, relaxing downwind sailing. Dolphins day and night. Oh, and a whale!!
