Skyelark of London - The start of Leg 2

6th of Feb.
It's change over time on Skyelark, leg 1 has finished and leg 2 begins, so it's farewell to Arvil, Marita, Jan, Kim and Robin, a warm welcome to George, Becki & Richard and great to see you again to Wiggo, Sarah and Sam.
For the next leg we set sail across the equator and head on down to the Galapagos islands for 2 weeks of cruising around and wildlife spotting. The forecast is generally looking light and varied so it should be an
interesting leg and put everyone through their paces. To mark the start of a new leg, the Warc fleet is anchored off Contadora island in the Las Perlas group which is quite a spectacle. Our yellow shirted party planners have been keeping us busy with drinks parties, morning runs, briefings and tonight promises a feast with a beach bbq, it's
great to be able to catch up with the other yachts and swap salty yarns and fishing stories.

Fishing has not been an overwhelming success for Skyelark in the Pacific, marred by gear breakages and many other excuses that we roll out pathetically.... so heavily does this failure and defeat shame us and marr our manhood that Sam and Richard have jumped ship! This morning they went local with nino and his panga and armed with 2 rods and some good knowledge returned 2 hours later with quite a haul of 9 good sized king mackerel. We brought 2 onboard which made a sumptuous lunch time bbq and a whole bucket of Ceviche for happy hour cocktails. We could have taken more, but now the boys expect fish galore. More importantly we can join in the boasts that we caught more fish than we knew what to do with.. honour is restored.. Hurrah

What most has surprised us, is that in just one month since leaving St Lucia, we have seen so much diversity, from the sandy atolls of the San Blas a tribal and sparse existence, to Colon which to be kind we can call
neglected and industrial, the magnificence of the Panama Canal, Panama city which has everything from shiny shopping centres, sky scrapers, great food, fun and friendly people - to here the Las Perlas islands - more Mediterranean .. sort of Sardinia meets Mustique.

Next stop the Galapagos and more change again. It's really quite exciting!

All the best from everyone on board. For more photo's blogs, videos or to
