Webster - Log 6 - Where is the wind?

Tuesday 26th: Bright and breezy to start today; still going SW at 5/6 knts. Forecast looking very dodgy but not in the meaning of the term I was dreading - light to no wind and possibly on the nose. How is it, and I say this yet again, that whenever I go sailing I end up with head winds! I apologise to the rest of the fleet as clearly it must be my fault.

The light airs this afternoon allowed us to stick the cruising chute up for a few hours and we ended up dropping the main sail to allow sufficient wind to fill it. We even rigged it as a spinnaker but this didn't really work either. However, it has been glorious sunshine this afternoon so its not all bad.

Ken was chef again and cooked potato hash with a load of chorizo sausage in it. Very good too.

The wind has been light to nothing all night and we have maxed out at 2kts over the ground. At this rate, and as the old song goes: Its a long way to Santa Lucia, its a long way to go; its a long way to Santa Lucia to the strong rum punch I know; Goodbye to Las Palmas, its been nice whilst we've been there; But its still a long, long way to Santa Lucia and we're still stuck here!

The crew wish me flogged for that.
