Starla - Log Day 2 - Meat and Vegetable Stew - Yummy

Hello Everyone

Distance logged today - 163 nautical miles. Distance to date this trip - 263 nautical miles.

A good day of steady breeze had helped us to make good progress on day 2.

We did have a few squalls that were cold and wet. We are making steady progress, heading south west towards the Cape Verde Islands. As we get more south the weather should get a lot warmer, but the chance of daily squalls still exists.

The crew are still settling in and getting in to the swing of things.

Yesterday was the first day of the SSB radio network. For those of us in the fleet that have a SSB radio, that is capable of long distance communication, we have a radio network on the sea. The network is administered by a network controller. The controller calls up all of the boats and each boat that wishes to join the net, calls in. The set time for our group is 1300 hrs. It is a great way of keeping up with a small section of the fleet to check local weather and socialize.

As it got a bit cold last night, Peter knocked up a great pot of meat and veg. stew. It had everything in it but the kitchen sink! Woofed down the hatch with second helpings (well that was Colin and me!)

At first light, the morning is pleasant with some sunshine. The fishing rods are out, to take advantage of the feeding times for some of the fish. Brian has just had a bite, the fish took of running with the line. The brake was put on the reel before it ran out of line and the fish broke the line. Sorry, another story of the one that got away. Still at least we are getting a few bites.

Regards,

Starla Crew
