Prologue: To bring you all up to speed ....
1 yacht. 9 women. 1 crazy night dressed as fairies. 1 week of boat prep.
400 pieces of fruit and veg. 48 hours at sea.
Now to introduce the crew (fellow twinklets):
#1 Nikki el capitan. Head of the ‘watchdogs’.
#2 Emma - in charge of keeping the capitan in order. Leader of the
'Nightowl' watch
#3 Sarah - chief impersonator and leader of the 'Squirrel' watch
#4 Karen - our rock. She supplies enough fairy dust to keep us all happy
and moralle high
#5 Claire - Owns the Hotstuff salon - beauty technician, social seceratary
and head of decor - unfortunately capitan says fairy lights are a fire hazard :(
#6 Sue - mummy twinklet. Her domain is the fridge; she is yet to show us
her sons body building techniques!
#7 Charlotte - our youngest twinklet. Oversees the grocery - she keeps all
our juicy juicy mangoes and big plums nice and ripe.
#8 Tricia - our in house nurse as well as head of fishing and keeping all
tackle in order.
#9 Jo - MD of power, gas, and water. She is Hotstuff's best friend
and ours too!
Our ARC 2013 adventure started with a spectacular departure and emotional
farewell from Las Palmas. The camaraderie and support shown by all our loved
ones, and everyone in Las Palmas was overwhelming. THANK YOU. A day none of us
will ever forget.
The romantic exit was promptly followed by squall, torrential rain,
thick fog and cold breaking waves - we thought that perhaps Nikki had taken us
the wrong way - we could have been back on the Solent!?
The rain cleared and for a few hours we had a beautiful reach down Gran
Canaria gybing in and out of fellow charter boats Northern child, EHO1 and El
Ocaso and we were off. The pack split up and we have been heading SW keeping
close to the Rhumb line to date.
It's so surreal to start writing our blog on deck under the glow of the
milky way. It's crazy to think just a week ago the closest we got to a milky way
was our Friday treat on our lunchbreak.
We have started as we mean to go on.
