Trillium - 31 Oct: Flat Stanley is Traveling with S/V Trillium

The Caribbean 1500 is just the first leg of our circumnavigation as we will be joining the World ARC in St. Lucia in January 2014. Since our six year old granddaughter is quite upset that we are leaving her for so long (3 years is the plan), we will be communicating with her first grade class in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan USA. We have Flat Stanley with us and he will appear in many photos as we travel around the globe. Flat Stanley will be showing the children many sites via photos, emails and Skype. This will be a big adventure for all of us!

We moved out of our house at midnight last Thursday and flew to the boat at Herrington Harbour North in the Chesapeake Bay. With the help of our crew Ron Horton, we managed to get ourselves down to Portsmouth, VA in an overnight run. We literally ran with the tide current at 8.5-9 knots and got here too early to approach the Elizabeth River so we anchored in the Salt Flats to wait for daylight. Our week has been a frustration one of trying to do everything we need to on the Internet with the typical poor marina connections and trying to stow the stuff we brought. It is too much but we have no idea what we really need for the next three years onboard! Sleep has been a missing commodity right now, but soon we will be across the Gulf Stream and on our way to “island time!”
