Peat Smoke - Blog poem

Peat Smoke All At Sea, composed by Caroline

Since leaving Bermuda, we all now agree,
That we really don’t want another 2 weeks at sea!
But this is the last ocean that we have to roam,
And in less than 7 weeks, we will all be back home!!

The wind and the water they change very quick,
And the strength and direction we don’t get to pick.
The Atlantic is mighty and to forecast is a pain,
When the Met Office says sunshine, we have the rain!

The wind it is 2 knots and comes from behind,
And 10 minutes later it’s blowing our minds.
The sails they are up, they are in and they’re out,
And everything aboard gets Shaken about!

Last night we had 10 knots and then 35,
The direction kept changing so we had to jibe!
The swell was quite slight, then 5 metres high,
And Peat Smoke was surfing way up to the sky!

All night this continued and we got no sleep,
As the watches were stressful that we had to keep!
And even to visit the loo was quite bold,
As it’s easy to “miss” unless you keep a good hold!

Today it is only Force 5 with some sun,
But heeled we still are, which isn’t much fun!
But a toast we will drink in an hour or so,
When the log it will tell us just 1,000 miles to go!

So cheers to you all as I need to go the noo,
As I have the dangerous task of visiting the loo!
And when you next drink and are feeling quite foo,
Just laugh and give a thought to Peat Smoke and crew!
