Amelie d'Oslo - Half way!

Congratulations Amelie d’Oslo, first boat (in your class) to cross the half way line!

As we have honoured ourselves with this heavy weight title, the liquor was added already to this morning’s coffee. Al though we have been motoring the last 24 hours, we believe that our tactical sailing so far has resulted in us being the absolute best boat* to cross the Atlantic.

We are celebrating with rum and Bermudian rum cake later today. And thanks in advance for all the congratulations. Yes, we are great!

Today we saw two sea turtles, a lobster trap (we believe) and an aprox 50 foot long log that happened to drift around just 10 meters from our boat. So we were probably closer then ever to end our days as shark bait in the middle of the Atlantic (I might exaggerate a tiny bit).

Love Kasper

*In our class, and half way

Our days are filled with a few chores, allot of sleep, some food, a watch or two and some shared tales of the crews heroics and former conquests. It may be hard to go back to the real world. Tonight in honour of our major accomplishment it is movie midnight madness where we will watch Capt Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean.. This hearty crew needs a few new pirate phrases before we storm the beaches of Horta. We have seen turtles, whales, dolphins and the crew in the long 12 to 6 morning watch claim to have seen some mermaids. Easy on the rum lads is what I say. Arrrrr

As the Skip-Per I can verify that every word above is the truth, the whole truth and noting but the truth, so help me Neptune (the God closest to us at the moment).

To day we have a so called calm day at sea, there is nothing calm by loosing the wind and being left with the waves. We are rolling from side to side with no wind to stop us rolling. The human body is a masterpiece indeed, after an hour or two, you get used to the crazy rolling and all seem normal.

Sitting at the chart table writing this blog I have the best view over what is happening in the galley, Mike and Kasper are preparing dinner, the table is set with 6 bowels, one have to eat up in the cockpit.

A short pause, the dinner is served:

Back again, dinner to day was canned chicken, tomato sauce, vegetables with pasta. It is so important to moral and joy to have good decent meals, and to enjoy it together.

The topic to day during dinner was gypsies and their Norwegian equivalent called; Tater -  They was seafarers sailing up and down the coast, living as Gypsies on their boats.

There seems to be no end to the topics being discussed onboard, everything from Kibbutz in Israel to research camps close to the North Pole. It is really good to be here!!

On the list of being done; mike the mechanic took upon the task of getting the shower drain pump back to life, so for a couple of hours we have being given the joy of studying Mikes “plumber” abilities. Now the pump is working better than ever so there is no arguing on Mike’s knowledge. He knows everything when it comes to mechanic matters. I am so greatful having him on board!!!

To make a summary of day number 7, it’s been a great day, just as all the others
