Peter von Danzig - Ghosts in the night

The reckless fellow came straight through the companionway! Nils might
have admired him for his skill had he not been deeply immersed in his book
of stars. The flying fish almost made it into the pantry (according to
skips wishful thinking straight into the frying pan …) but then decided to
land in an elegant curve just outside the oilskin locker. How to get rid
of this stinking little creature?

Shortly before Bermuda we were visited by a squid that expired its life in
the cockpit, not before leaving his mark … Sounds incredible, just as
skips stories of squids jumping in through open pantry skylights or
gathering on the foredeck. Everything seems possible, looks as if we had a
lucky escape with just a small flying fish through the companionway!

No so the unlucky devil entering his personal hell. Nils mounts his
special green fisherman’s gloves which are really intended for bigger fish
which has so far eluded us. Which leads skip to relate a story of a fellow
sailor who promised to have his bottom tattooed if his crew catches a fish
– and is so far without tattoo. Which does not bode well for our lunch …

As this may be, Nils grabs the little fellow (really rather pretty, bluish
silver with light blue eyes - who is more scared … ?) and sends him back
to where he belongs, short of a few silvery scales on the floor. To think
that the creature could have landed inside the oilskin locker and might
not have been noticed! Oh boy, the smell!

So much for studying the stars this night, dawn is breaking, the beginning
of a beautiful morning.
