Firefly - Hill climbing and island hopping in the Marquesas

Yesterday we tested our legs to the full by climbing up the roads from the Bay of Virgins, climbing some 600 meters to a radio mast and view point overlooking the anchorage. We carried on further to look over to the other side of the Fatu Hiva. The views across the island were stunning just like the coastline with varying land forms and vegetation. We also got a distant view of the waterfall were were swimming in the day before.

In the evening we were treated to a roast lamb supper cooked by Pat on board Brizo. Many thanks to Pat and Stuart for a great night. The hospitality we have enjoyed from our fiends and neighbors has been fantastic.

This morning we set out on Firefly heading South to the other settlement on Fatu Hiva; Opoa. After taking a look at the rolling anchorage, waves breaking on the beach and small jetty we decided to give the place a miss. So we are heading back North a day earlier; we are now bound for the Island of Tahuata. Here at Baie Hanatefau were are hoping for more shelter and some snorkeling amongst the coral. We have been told to be wary of the sand flies who have taken a liking to previous visitors; There is less risk later in the day and we are well armed with insect repellant!
