Trompeta - World ARC comes to an end

Arrival yesterday in Rodney Bay Marina St Lucia was emotional for us as this was where we started our epic adventure in January 2012. There was a Parade of Sail from Marigot Bay to Rodney Bay led by the smallest boat in the fleet Spirit of Alcides. A long line of yachts all displaying colourful flags created a dazzling spectacle. Upon our arrival a gentleman was on the dock holding a huge bouquet of flowers and some chilled Moet & Chandon sent to us by our Yorkshire friends Jenny and Bill and we wish to thank them for this thoughtful gesture.  No sooner were we off the boat then it was up to the Marina pool to enjoy a rum punch and snacks to the sounds of steel pan drums. There was a certain amount of frivolity involving jumping into the swimming pool - in some cases fully clothed!

The day ended with a splendid farewell dinner at the Royal St Lucian Hotel after which the rally organisers presented all the yachts with a souvenir photograph book together with a bottle of St Lucian rum and a plaque to mark their achievement.  It was then the turn of the fleet to give their own personal thanks to Paul and Suzana who have been with us all the way around the world making sure they were there to help and guide us into port. The youngest crews Kathryn and Audrey from Brizo presented our gifts to Paul and Suzana together with a thank you album comprising individual boat messages of thanks. Sato from Umineko did a wonderful job with our vote of thanks and Willi from Mr Blues presented a beautiful calendar he had put together of the trip. The final toast was given by Caroline from Peat Smoke who had written a special poem to mark the occasion.

This is the end to what has been a terrific experience and one we will treasure for the rest of our lives.

Tuesday we head off up to the BVIs island hopping on the way to rendezvous at Nanny Cay to celebrate Peter's birthday and wave off the ARC boats heading back to Europe and the USA.
