Scarlet Oyster - The drag race commences!

Hi All,

We finally seemed to extract ourselves from the light wind zone by about 2100UT, after a tense day working really hard to keep moving, the weather files suggested that we had to get to the wind rather than it come to us, so it was important to gain every bit of boatspeed we could through the light stuff.

By our calculations we came out the hole about 1% behind Quokka 8 on handicap, we have a more southerly position which means she will have to spend more time on the less favoured port gybe to get to the finish line, we
also have the benefit of more runway before the finish to better our average speed for the trip. One thing is for sure no one will be giving up easily!

The Sigma Persephone, and our friends on the Swan 44 Selene are also well in the hunt and are currently only a fraction of a percent behind us on handicap, all to play for!

Looking forward to some surfing action as the wind builds a little over the next few days, and of course a rum or two on arrival!

I found time for a mid atlantic dip as we parked up again today, quick underwater inspection revealed clean bottom and nothing hanging off the foils or prop so no excuses there!

Vaquita are now under 100miles from the finish, so they will be in for sundowners tomorrow if not lunch (or even breakfast!), they are over 200miles in front of the next boat, so barring some sort of disaster they will be in almost a day before the big boats start to arrive, well done guys!

Must download the weather now and get on watch, I think Darryl is getting a bit tired up there!

All for now

Ross
