On the moon...

We spend as much time in the dark as in the light and up until now the moon has been our friend. Moonlight is a sort of alternative daylight, complete with shadows and a soft light (as loved in Jane Austin novels for summer balls etc. as Susie reminded me) However, its coming up later and later (last night 01:45) and there is less and less of it - leaving us to hurtle (if 7 kts can be considered hurtling) through the pitch black night. Sometimes we have the stars as compensation but of late .. not a lot. We look forward to the moon's return next week.

On our watery world...

We are now quite used to the fact that we exist on an 8 mile wide watery disc under the dome of the sky. It's always the same size but it's constantly changing. The bit we love the most is when the wind and the sun are up and there's a decent swell on the waves (sometimes, under strict rationing conditions, with a gin and tonic in hand). The swell creates temporary hills that elevate us above the waves and then send us surfing down them st some speed (11.6 knots the current record) with a wall of foaming water at our backs. The effect is heightened by the slo-mo ripple that flows across the surface of the waves as they crest and fall.

On sailing in good company away from the world..

As I write this the sun is going down and the choir is in full voice lubricated by a little wine and whisky. Little of the outside world leaks in and we haven't seen another soul for days. We occasionally speculate that this is a conspiracy by the rest of the world who knew about an impending disaster and chose not to tell us whilst they snuck off and left us.

On balance it's quite a pleasant life at sea talking bo***cks, singing every song we can remember from the back of cars in our childhood and laughing at Nick's jokes for the forty-fifth time without (probably) ever remembering the punch-line.

The skeptics who prefer a 747 to the Carribean will never know.

Happy days ...

Cheers
Jim
