Ace - Exciting and tubulent first day at sea!

Today we departed Las Palmas, Gran Canaria heading for St. Lucia.  We left under cloudy skies and a building Northeasterly breeze.   We took a southerly course to avoid the wind shadow of Gran Canaria and now have gybed over onto starboard and are heading westward!  We left with a single reef in the mail and the cruising jib and have now tucked a second reef into the main to make it comfortable overnight.

Peter held the official high speed record of 19.3 knots for most of the day only to see it fall to Chris with a top of 21.3 knots.  The second reef was taken in shortly after that!!!

All is good aboard and we are eating well!  The large seas make for lots of colorful words in the galley but the food is still emerging and we are all enjoying it!  We hope all the other boats in the ARC are doing just as well!
