Rivendell - Log 2: "Final Day of Preparation"

26 Nov 2012
Last year aboard "Glass Slipper" (an Oyster 53) there was quite a bit to do,
but on "Rivendell" an Oyster 82 there is even more to do - the added number
of feet add additional responsibilities. So we spent time going over all
the critical functions of the boat and making sure that everyone understood
their responsibilities. Inspection of the engine room and all the
electoronics, safety systems were in order. Also the realization that now
we would be at sea and that you cannot take long showers due to limited
water supplies and you cannot leave the lights on in the cabins we will not
be plugged into the dock, but running off our batteries. We do have two
Cummings generators (one is a back-up) but, you must still maintain good
energy management. The watches have been assigned - we will each stand two
three hour watches, but you will spend an hour and a half with one crew
member and the final period with another. Beau and Miles are both very
artistic and have painted a beautiful mural on the seawall behind the boat
that we have all signed. We went out for a final crew dinner in the old part
of town - three to four hundred year old buildings with cobblestoned
streets. We were in the court yard of a very old home - a delightful evening
- the atmosphere was like a "Hollywood" movie.
Cheers!
