Jay Jay - 25-11-12 Non Starters!

We were all geared up to depart today, but the a combination of the impending change in the weather and the decision made at the Skippers’ briefing yesterday put paid to that. However, we had the advantage of being able to stand on the start line and watch the start of the ARC as spectators. As the starting signals were being fired, I felt a pang of regret, but our day will come on Tuesday instead. It has given us the chance to relax a bit after the frenetic checking of the various parts of the boat, provisioning, and general organisation. Our afternoon was more relaxed, a couple of beers in the bar on the way back to Jay Jay after collecting our freshly baked bread from the minimarket. In fact, the bread was so fresh it came straight from the ovens into a paper bag and into my hands. I learnt to juggle within seconds.

Some (15 we think) of the racing division boats that crossed the start line have turned around and returned to the marina until the weather front passes over, and they hope to resume their crossing immediately afterwards. We however, need to remain until the next starting signal on Tuesday regardless of any improvement in the weather in between time. So we are enjoying our enforced rest with good grace.

True to the forecast, the wind is picking up with a vengeance, the rain will follow and we realise it is all for the best that we are tied up in harbour.
