Ceilidh of Lorne - Code Red! 38:46.93N 04:20.33E

Apologies for the break in blog service, this was due to being unable to top our Sat phone Sim card until this morning.

Normal service will now be resumed!

This morning finds Ceilidh some 130 NM due West of Ibiza having taken another pummeling last night beating into a F6 SW’ly.

We completed 154NM in our 24hour run with the highlight being a scorching 9.4knots with the big blue Code o hoisted for 5 hours yesterday.

This was in 12knots of true wind at around 120 apparent wind angle.

Definitely a big success and the sail does not give too much weather helm or require too much adjustment when set.

The code 0 was furled and dropped around 15:00 as we were first headed then the wind died completely to give a period of motorsailing.

From 18:00 the wind began to build from the SW as had been forecast and by 22:30 we had 3 reefs in the main with around 25knots of true wind.

Unfortunately the reefing cringle in the leech of the main was  completely pulled out of the sail and we had to drop the sail and go under headsail alone.

We continued to make over 6knots with the self tacking genoa set until the wind eased and also veered to the NW.

We have now been able to set the full main once again in around 10 knots of breeze and are making our course of 270M toward Ibiza.

So apart from a visit to the sailmakers we are looking forward to taking a break on land once again.

Dave Sturrock
