Ceilidh of Lorne - Ceilidh arrived at Malta

Just taking the opportunity to update our ARC Diary, further entries will be posted in due course.

Ceilidh was berthed alongside the pontoons at the Royal Malta Yacht Club in Msida at 05:30 local time on Tuesday 30 October.

We had covered 685NM since departing Kos on the 25th with the last 150NM a pretty hefty beat into a NW F6 which had seen 3 reefs in the main once again.

Although the wind strength was manageable the west going swell of 4metres was knocking our boatspeed and generally making life hard.

In order that Neil could make his homeward flight from Malta at 11:30 on Tuesday morning, we motor sailed to help maintain an average speed of around 7 knots on this final beat.

All of us were very relieved to have a rest as the boat had been very wet with breaking seas finding their way inboard occasionally and everyone had finished with full oilskins and harnesses on at all times.

So it is on with the repair lists and preparing Ceilidh for the next leg while we enjoy our time exploring Malta which I have always found to be very friendly.

We were welcomed to Malta by KP not long after we berthed so it was good to see a “fresh pair of legs” on the team.

My friend Vangelis has recommended a local Taverna which we shall visit in due course.
