Scarlet Lady - Log Day 22 - Free day in Sines

There was an organised early morning walking tour of Sines today.  John joined the tour whilst Steve and I had a lie in :)  We joined the rest of the Rally participants in the fort overlooking the marina at 11am for drinks, nibbles and the Rally prizegiving for the previous leg.  After the prizegiving, we took a look around the fort museum and climbed to the top of the fort wall to take some photos of the harbour and beach below.  Below the fort there was also a statue of Vasco De Gama, who was the man who first found the sea route to India and discovered Brazil.  It is believed that he was born in the fort.

In the afternoon, John and I walked back into town to get some goodies for a pontoon party that Sally & Ian off Seraphina suggested we hold.  Steve stayed on the boat to bake some bread for the party.  We ended up taking some squares of freshly cooked bread topped with smoked salmon and also some topped with parma ham and they seemed to go down well as the plates were soon empty!

At about 7pm, we set of for an early dinner in town with Scott & Julia from Katerina.  We tried to find a restaurant we had passed earlier in the day but got hopelessly lost in all the narrow cobbled streets.  Eventually a local suggested a place to eat and fortunately gave directions.  After a steak dinner, we headed back to the boat for an early night as the race start is at 6am tomorrow!
