Sapphire II - 9 May, BoraBora

This is what it's all been about.....coming into the lagoon of BoraBora.

We had a fantastic tour around Tahaa island today. We met Alain in his Polynesian compound. We were anchored in a gorgeous bay and tendered in to his jetty.

He has lived here for 27 years and knew everything about the Polynesians from time immemorial. We drove with him across the island with frequent stops to allow him to explain the origin and use of the various plants, trees and shrubs. A most magisterial commentary on the Polynesian islands.

Unfortunately, he loved his subject so much, the 12"00 finish time turned out to be 1330, and we had to rush to leave the bay,

We left at 1400 hrs and with the wind dead astern, decided to motor the 21 miles to BoraBora. After apt of faffing about, we arrived at the passage through the reef, only to see the cruise liner Paul Gauguin coming at us. We did a few circles to give him the passage!

Into the lagoon with an extraordinary sunset. Beautiful., beautiful place. Then, down the lagoon to Bloody Mary's restaurant. Now, at anchor with pizzas and night caps.

More adventures await tomorrow.
