Trillium - Log 1 - Time to Rally!

It Is Time to Rally!

As I write this blog, I am flying from Munich to Madrid to San Juan to Beef Island, Tortola BVI while Dennis is in the air flying from Detroit to St. Thomas. What one does to be part of the Atlantic Cup Rally! The crew of S/V Trillium will be arriving over the next three days from Ohio, Illinois and Virginia.

One of the great things about participating in a sailing rally is making new friends from around the world. Sailors who want to make the trip volunteer to sail with boat owners making the trip easier on all. We will have a crew of five this time so I have to adjust my meal planning slightly. And the cockpit will be a little cozy when all of us are awake and up top.

Our crew doesn’t seem to require any food items out of my usual menu of things like Shrimp Curry, Chicken Cacciatore, Beef Stir Fry, Spaghetti and Sausage Meatballs, Chili, Corn Chowder, Beef Stroganoff, Beef Stew, and Chop Suey. That makes it easy for me to repeat meals from previous trips since we usually have different crew each trip.

By changing crew (with some repeats) we get to learn how other sailors do things. There is so much to know and learn that one always welcomes the opportunity to see someone else do the same task. So far we have enjoyed everyone who has come on board with us. One of the joys of the rally is meeting other sailors interested in crewing in the future. This makes it easier to find crew when you have socialized some at an earlier event and they get to see the vessel before committing to sail.

Can’t wait to get to the boat!
