Ensemble - Day 92 (Monday 9 April 2012): On our way to Mahini...

Greetings and Happy Easter from yacht Ensemble.

We're now on our way to Mahini in the Tomatoe Archipelago (Tuamotos to everyone else) - and have about 350nm to go.

We had some wind last night so chose to sail - albeit painfully slowly. This morning the little wind that was dropped to less than 5 knots so the motor is on. It is also stiflingly hot - at 32C at 7:30am in the morning and no cooling breeze.

Seaquest and Gunvor are also travelling with us in a loose convoy - and we could see Seaquest until around 5am this morning. It's nice knowing we have company somewhere near by.

We had our first gear failure of this leg - with the genakker winch self tailor breaking - and chewing a genakker sheet. Fortunately I'd cut the sheets long - so we lost some tail but were able to save the sheet - and now just need to remember not to use the self tailor on that winch.

We lost another lure yesterday afternoon - a sail fish this time - who gave us his cursory 'ha ha ha' tail wave before disappearing back to the depths. I have taken advice from Anastasia and made my own lure this time based on a 'squiddy' and a cork. We'll see if we have more luck today.

Last night we had a healthy sunset rendevous with carrots in a blue cheese dip, a drop of rose, and then a prawn arabiata pasta for dinner. Today Magali is making pizza - and we'll do a BBQ for dinner (unless we catch fish first). Here's hoping!

Cheers

Dave & Magali
