Jade - Log written Monday, 1pm

Jade has been sailing at or near hull speed for three days straight. She is handling well today on a triple reefed main and a full Yankee. Swells from the rear port quarter give us a roll to starboard occasionally and then we glide to an upright position. Occasionally when the swell is big enough water washes over the deck and the starboard toe rail skims through the water.

The sensation is like a smooth galloping horse. We have owned Jade for 5 years. We spent four years upgrading her, especially focusing on replacing the chain plates and rigging. Since January 2011 we have cruised on Jade up the east coast as far as Maine. However, ocean sailing is a completely different and wonderful experience. It is incredibly rewarding and satisfying to experience this boat for an extended time as a sail boat.

We are all doing well. Resting, eating and remaining alert as we approach our destination.
