Crazy Horse - March 7

Here we are after two days of carnaval in Recife and Olinda. Bill and I are getting too old to keep up with all the energy, excitement, dancing, chaos that is part of carnaval. It is a once in a lifetime experience for us. I don't think I could do this every year. It is wild, fun, crazy, and loud. The music on each of the floats is beyond loud. They seem to have special famous people on each of the floats who play their own kind of music. The people are proud of these stars and their country of Brazil. They know all the words which everyone sings out loud with lots of emotion. We even got to
the point when we heard them so often we could sing along as well. The excitement is contagious. You can feel the beat in your chest and must close your ears when they pass bye. The number of people in attendance is in the millions. I think that Recife is in the Guiness Book of World Records for the most people in attendance at carnaval. Once you get into the parade crowd it is hard to get out. We all held hands and pushed our way through as you must to move along.

The young people on the rally can keep up with the constant pace of celebration. Needless to say Matt is in that group. The pictures in the blog should be good of the whole group dressed up before we left for the carnaval to Olinda. We had two buses which took us to the place where we had dancing, food, drinks, and all in their finest costurmes. Many of us left in the first bus back to the marina to get cooled off in the pool. It had to be more than 100 deg. with all the people, sun, and concrete.

That parade didn't even start until 4pm so the celebrations of music and walking through the streets was just getting started. Bill and I left on the first bus with many others - that was enough- already. But Matt stayed on and celebrated until the wee hours. We are all back and trying to recooperate.

We have started the reprovisioning for the next leg. Many of the shops close for 4-5 days to celebrate carnaval. We did manage to get to the market today however.

Tomorrow night is the final party in Brazil. We will all be ready for departure on Thurs. This has been a colorful, loud, fun, and exciting stop. But I think we will be ready to get back out to sea and have a little more quiet pace.

Right now there is a sailboat on its side right outside of this marina. I have said it is quite shallow to enter this marina. That is a good reminder to us all. It will be interesting to see how we get the whole fleet out of here on Thurs. before the tide starts to recede. Later today we hope to get back to the pool to relax and get on Skype. What a wonderful thing to have that pool to cool off in this tremendous heat.

Rosemary, Bill, and Matt
