Cleone - Leg 22A Day 5 - Frustration

Out here, frustration is light and variable winds.

Where you are, this probably means sunshine, rapidly drying washing, sunbathing, picnics (in January? Where've you been recently - Ed), no trees or branches falling onto your car and general happiness.  For the technical, it probably means you are under the influence of a stable, high-pressure system.  But here, although the observable effects are similar, the reaction tends to be the reverse.  We've been beset by light and variable winds.  None of us have anything against sunshine, but we've had showers which should be squalls but are not, winds that shift constantly (where are the steady, trade-winds blowing?), sails to trim incessantly (the ghoster has been up and down twice this morning) and general frustration.  None of this is good for morale.  Despite this, Cleone is a cheerful boat; meals are excellent and lots of little jobs, such as cleaning out the cockpit and the fridge, are being crossed off the jobs list.  The crew even survived the Skipper's Beef Stew, without too many complaints and even some expressions of approval.  Wonders continue, and we've made 125 miles towards our target, one way and another.

And finally, on behalf of Cleone, I would like to thank especially Nutella's Miguel and Carmen for their lovely e-mail following the sad demise of Cleone's Spinnaker.  It gave us all a huge smile, and was very much appreciated!

Meanwhile, all is well with us, and very best wishes to you all.
