Jus'Do It 3 - final preparations to leave!

Friday 25th July

We’re up early and allocated jobs for our final preparations for leaving: Alex does customs and gets a few final groceries.; Ian and Annie go to the patisserie to stock up on bread and pies, and go to the local market for the fruit and veg; Phil cooks his macaroni cheese for the voyage, Annie makes a pot of soup and Ian fixes the third reefing line. Kevin sets up the man overboard life-tag system and goes to check the fuel berth opening times for the morning. The boat is ship shape and we’ve never been so organised. The warm clothes are also looked out for easy access as we are now, without doubt, heading into the cold! The front passes through during the day and for the first time since we got here, it rains. We discuss weather with Alberto from One Life, and after making some more enquiries decide to leave tomorrow. We’ve received a forecast from Bruce the Weatherman who advises we can leave tomorrow morning but will need to head further north than we hoped, probably to Bundaburg. He’s given us waypoints to follow. It’s quite a way off our preferred course but it’s either move now and get the crossing over and done with or be sitting here until dear knows when! We’ve decided to go eat ashore but after sunset the weather deteriorates to what Phil describes as” thoroughly Scottish” – the wind is howling through and we’re keeling over in our berth, very glad not to be out there! One Life – Alberto, Micheala, Nicola and Giovanni call round for a drink and a chat. We’re all planning to leave at the same time and follow the same course so we agree to communicate once a day on VHF or satellite phone . We have a final meal ashore at a little vietnamese restaurant, then one drink in the pub across the road and an early night. The wind is still howling…
