Lady Kay - Exploring port vila

Port Vila is a very pleasant town. There are three languages spoken, English, French and Bislama. The town follows the arc of the large inner harbour. Today we went on a visit to a museum run privately by the local catholic priest which is claimed to be superior to the national museum. It is full of artefacts created by the indigenous people. The most striking are probably the statues carved out of dead tree ferns. These can be found outside lots of buildings in Port Vila. There are also numerous masks and special sticks for killing pigs. Pigs are the main indicant of wealth in the villages. We had good internet access in Port Vila and our new blog is now set up on http://www.sailblogs.com/member/ladykay/ so that is where future news will be stored. Now the winds have dropped we are going to cruise some of the northern islands prior to returning to Port Vila and then New Caledonia. We are now at an anchorage north of the island. When we arrived we were the only boat here 3pm but now there are 6 boats, but it is very large and we are not at all crowded. We had our first snorkeling for some time.
