EH01 - Are we there yet?!?!

Hi all,

Day 12 on the good ship. The sun has taken a welcome break today leaving us
with overcast skies and scattered squally showers. After the last couple of
days a few of the crew (including myself) are looking the wrong shade of
lobster. Its still hot and humid but the raw power of the sun over the last
couple of days has been slightly overbearing so a day in the rain feels
quite pleasant! I also have my towel and shower gel on standby hoping for a
monster downpour.

Talking of monster downpours... last night was another night of large
squalls which left the boat and crew sodden within minutes. Everyone's sense
of humour is intact though as I can hear them laughing in the rain through
my cabin window! My offer of an umbrella last night was less than politely
turned down though...

After all this rain, naturally everyone's foul weather kit and clothes are
soaking. I woke up this morning to what looked like a post apocalyptic
laundry with t-shirts, pants and jackets hanging from every possible ledge.
You currently cannot move without being slapped in the face by a damp pair
of underwear!

The good news is with all this rain it has bought good steady winds which
has been powering us along our lay-line to St Lucia. With the wind on our
beam we have been averaging between 8-9 knots over the ground which we are
really hoping will give us some good VMG figures when we receive todays
fleet report. Looking at the upcoming forecast we are hoping to maintain
these winds for the next 24 hours but I am slightly concerned about a trough
developing off St Lucia around Monday that may leave us in a bit of a hole!
Our current ETA is early Tuesday morning... fingers crossed we can just
power through over the next couple of days and hopefully get in before the
wind dies!

With just over 500 miles to go (roughly 520 when I last checked) everyone is
getting pretty excited about our arrival. The competition for the 'Golden
Pillow Award' (the crew member who loves his/her bunk the most) is really
starting to heat up. As everyone is naturally tiring the front runners in
the competition are being given a good run for their money. We will have to
wait till the final day to name our winner! As usual the food has been
fantastic, over the last couple of days we have had everything from
quesadillas to anchovies and tomato pasta.

Anyway I have to get off, there is a large black cloud approaching so I need
to get my boardies, shower gel and towel ready! Talk to you all soon
