King's Legend - Kings legend: how to catch a fish ...or two.

How to catch a fish .. or two.

27-29 November 2014

When it comes to crossing the Atlantic it is important to select a well-balanced crew with various specialism (Yachting
World November 2014). We are so lucky to have a crew were every person fits in the right place. Here is our dreamteam crew:

Gijs en Femke: skipper and mental coach
Geleyn: communication/navigation officer
Dick: deck mate and first trimmer
Michel: marketing/strategic officer and 2nd fishing manager
Hans: fishing manager
Gerhard: Gopro/IT specialist
Sjoerd: senior safety officer and story teller

After 3 days and nights at sea we are sort of getting used to the rhytm of waking up in the middle of the night and
sleeping at daytime. Coffee, tea, cookies, chocolate helps us through the night. During the day everyone has its own
separate breakfast routine: scrambled eggs/sunny side up or muesli/bread with cheese or meat (yes, its a tough life).
Diner we have outside in the cockpit of the boat and is the moment were we are all together and were we have lively
discussion and laughs.

On Thursday we hit the fishing jackpot: excitement all over the boat when we caught our first fish. After a ferocious fight
we railed in a yellow dolphin and while Gijs and Michel were preparing the fish onboard, within 10 minutes Hans caught a
second fish: a Dorade of 70 cm. Our dinner men changed immediately that evening and instead of nasi goring we now had a
tasteful pasta pescadore. In fact we had so much fish that we ate the next day an outstanding Tom Kai Kai soup (Michel's
recipe) with the remaining fish.

Life on board is quite simple: we sleep, eat, sail, read a book, fish. But one of the highlights of the day is when in the
morning Geleyn gets in the gribfiles and the weather forecast with the Iridium satellite phone. All of a sudden we have
eight captains, and every one has his/her own interpretation which route is the best to Saint Lucia. It looks then as if we
are in the racing division instead of the cruising.

The position report is the best read file so far: 5 days in a row we are in number 1 position in the D-group !!!!! See
what happens if you put a dreamteam on the Kings Legend. And everything hand-steered, no auto-pilot.

We also have a lot of discussion on board, but there are still some questions to be answered:
- what is the best position to shower in a boat: standing up or sitting down ?
- is Grand mama's apple pie with bananas in it still an apple pie ?
- will there be a 5th season of Homeland (is Brody really dead)?
- Is it abnormal to take a year off to watch all your favorite TV series ?
- with how many persons can you play hide-and-seek on the Kings Legend ?
- Is there life after ARC ?

Finally it is getteing warmer: we have already had some flying fish on deck and beautiful tropical birds following us, so
we know the tropics are coming. Get your swimsuit ready !

Tonight we have a Dutch evening: a typical Dutch(van Gogh) meal (potatoes, vegetables and meatballs) and a singalong of our
favorite Dutch artists. Come join us if you are in the neighborhood. Drinks for free !
