Rhumb - Log Day 6

The Alternative Ships Log.

Another day in port, but a truly international day though, in the Canaries, watching England beat the Aussies in an Irish bar. For those non sporty types, they were actually playing at Twickenham and not in the bar, otherwise there wouldn't have been enough room and the Guinness would have been 4 times the price! All this swiftly followed by Sunderland vs Chelsea and a further 4 pints of Guinness.

Back to the boat eventually to another failure, probably the most serious though, as the new cooker which was installed but one week ago in Las Palmas couldn't keep its oven flame going, so by way of improvisation we had "Alternative Deconstructed Cottage Pie". For those culinary minded amongst you, that means taking the potato topping off and placing it under the lighted grill, with the meaty bit being placed in a suitable microwaveable container until hot, re-combine and serve with lashings of Lea & Perrins, all washed down with a glass or two of you know what. Although quite partial to a glass of two, we are all desperately hoping to get to dry boat status tomorrow when we get away from here.

A potentially tedious day of continued waiting alleviated by the televised sport thankfully and a cheery anecdote to end on also. We met a very cheerful old salty sea dog chappy on the way home, and when asked 'Why so happy', he replied 'I've just arranged for some plastic surgery for my wife, so I'm just on my way home to cut up her credit cards!!'
