Reina - Log 5 - FLYING LURE

“Good morning everybody! How are you all doing? Are we going the right way, captain?”

Captain Jarrod Cripps has a glance on my sleepy face and brings up with a laugh: “We are only doing a few knots and we are totally going the wrong way, Arie… I do not think we will be home for Christmas. So there will be a shortage of food later on. You better go on deck and catch us a big fish for dinner!”

I get the 50 pounds rod, put a weight at the end of the line and an artificial squid. I am sure not any fish can resist this beautiful bait. There it goes into the Atlantic to bring all aboard a nice meal. In the meantime Captain Cripps is setting out the right course to St. Lucia in the best wind angle to get the best speed out of Reina. Rory Gillard on the steering wheel brings Reina up the waves and let her roll of. He is managing to bring extra speed in the 60 tons Reina puts into the waters. We see the meter fly higher and higher. 11, 12, 13.3, .4, .5, .6. Then it runs over 14 and when Reina goes over 15 there is a big cheer from the crew.

What a speed! What a fantastic day! What a marvellous boat! What a great crew!

We sure will be home for Christmas. And we certainly will not have fish for dinner. The lure is flying behind the boat like a Boeing 747.
