Lydia - Day 5 - Groovy and Green

Another lovely day and Lydia has gone green. Not only are we assiduously sorting our gash (rubbish to the non naval types) and the non ditchable plastic is gathering in bags on the pushpit but we are heavily into peas. A large bag of well travelled Waitrose frozen peas was transferred to the fridge in Las Palmas so its been peas with every meal, except breakfast, today ...... and probably tomorrow too.

With the latest positions in from a recent Yellow Brick report from the skipper's rear link (aka Nicola) generating a degree of 'cautious optimism' verging on an air confident smugness that we are very much up with the leaders in our class, Lydia continues to crack on. Though there were some classic mare's tails clouds in the sky this afternoon indicating more wind to come, the weather ninjas ashore say we will get more of the same (about 15 kts from the NE) and this could/should get us to Mindelo sometime on Saturday morning.

Western Sahara is behind us and though we are level with Mauritania we are now diverging from the coast. So we are safe from the Barbary Pirates ( that were never a real threat) the real and present danger manifested itself
tonight as a squadron/flight/shoal of flying fish passed through the cockpit at low level, narrowly missing the Mate (Matthew) who was oblivious to his close call.

Crew morale, though generally high, had a wobble this evening when a rumour started that we were about to run out of beer. Thankfully it proved groundless when another couple of slabs were found by a determined (desperate?) crew member with a head torch rummaging in the darker reccesses of the bilge.

Nothing broke today - probably because we didn't try to fix anything! And this afternoon the Go-Pro camera was sent to the top of the mast collecting some amazing shots that blog readers must wait until we arrive in the land of wifi to see. This was achieved without loosing the halyard or the camera.

Wonders will never cease.

We're a long way from Casablanca but of all the bits of ocean in all the world you had to come into mine springs to mind as we find ourselves in company with ZERA, CALISTA & MAKENA painting on AIS within a 12 mile circle of us and we know that INFINTY B, LILY & ROXANNE are also out there not far away.

The skipper has the watch, the crew are fat and happy (mostly on peas), a fresh batch of beer is cooling in the fridge for another gruelling day tomorrow and all is pretty right with the world.
