Sea Eagle - Mastering the Cube

Its been a great ride since our last blog, with everyone very happy, well fed and enjoying the trip. Still meat in the freezer and enough eggs and bacon for at least one more full English.

Wayne took on the challenge of mastering the Rubiks Cube by the time we arrive in Portugal and with guidance from the Grand Master(David) he cracked it within a few days. Ben has now taken up the challenge and is not far behind. I think by the time we get in he'll have mastered it as well. Problem is Wayne and Ben share a watch and they were so distracted on Wednesday night as Wayne instructed Ben that we actually started heading back to the Azores as neither had noticed that the autohelm had cut out. Quite worrying really!!

Although we have spotted whales we have not yet had one as close and for as long as the one that accompanied us on Tuesday. It swam alongside us around 5 metres of the port side for some time allowing us a great view and hopefully some good photos and video. It was huge and we think it was a Fin whale. Not discounting the dolphins of course that have been our constant companions and always great to see. The ones we have on this leg are the much larger bottle-nose species. I awoke yesterday looked out of the cabin porthole and one was looking in. I had to pull the bed sheets over me.

We have had a day of sailing in light winds with the parasailor. The wind has now changed to the North and through the night was very changeable, making us work on our watch, reefing sails and even a short blast on the motor as the wind went from 15 -4-15knots. We now seem to be coming into much more consistant winds of around 15 knots increasing our speed up towards 9 knots where Sea Eagle is in her element. We should be closing in on the fleet quite nicely now and with any luck share a beer with everyone by arriving at the same time. We left the Azores a day after most.

Surround sound cinema has just opened so have to go; where's me popcorn??
