Incisor - Incisor daily blog 3-11-2013

Hello everyone in chilly Europe!

I hate to say this but it is bloomin’ hot out here and we are loving it! Our speed has picked up from yesterday thank god – only doing 3knts was very tedious especially when we had to point north to get the boat going. We were heading for New York for quite a lot of the time. Lots of the crew weren’t too happy about that as we hear the weather isn’t as good there this time of year as it is in St Lucia!

Everyone still having a great time (well, at least I am!) and getting on really well. During the night watches there is a lot of laughter going on. We had our last pre-prepared meal last night which was sweet chilli pork. We definitely saved the best till last. So we are onto to tinned food tonight. We have eaten extremely well and it has been helped by the fridge. We can’t imagine what it would have been like without it! Having ice cold tang really is a treat! I use the term ice cold loosely but it’s nice.  We ate the last of Rich’s coleslaw today which is so refreshing and really turns a ham sandwich around!

And finally a little bit about the actual sailing for all you Tuesday nighters out there and keen sailors (it seems like every time I write the blog it’s about food!) So the wind has finally picked up to a steady 13knts from the NE which is making for very pleasant sailing. Through the night we were reaching along at a steady 9knts but the wind has come round and freed up a little which has meant we are on more of a run and finally taking advantage of these famous trade winds everyone is talking about.

Last night there was an almighty smack on the mainsail, and we were shining torches thinking what the hell was that. After a while Mum (Sandra) figured out that a flying fish had flown into the sail and fallen onto the deck and flopped back into the sea. We didn’t think anything more about it until the early hours of this morning when Matthias and Mum both on separate occasions said they could smell fish. They searched but couldn’t find anything immediately so it was forgotten about. Until this morning when I was putting on my shorts with my head leant over the engine bay and I thought, god that’s smelly, was it that? and then I saw a wing coming out from underneath Alex’s hat and the huge flying fish had come in through the hatch and flown backwards onto the engine bay and gone under everybody’s clothes! We will be shutting the windows and hatches tonight no matter how hot it is!

Hope all is well back home, Incisor x
