Blue Dolphin - Day 9 - 1000 miles

The crew celebrated reaching the 1st 1000 mile mark with the long awaited bottle of red wine.  It was savoured by all and went well with the chilli.

It rounded off a very enjoyable day which began with clear skies and calm seas and remained that way all day.  The girls all wore their swimsuits for the 1st time and Mike Was threatening to don his ‘budgie smugglers’.  He didn’t - but he will!

Mike got his fishing gear out and spent the afternoon staring off the back of the boat hoping for a nibble.  Quite what he will do if he ever catches a fish is not clear.  Mike ordered up all of the necessary paraphernalia, wooden board, knife, landing net, vodka.  Vodka!!??   Apparently that is  to kill the fish – whether Mike drinks it, to give him courage to do the necessary, or for the fish remains to be seen.

Meanwhile the girls were contemplating the meaning of life and the universe.  It is a very strange experience to be alone in such a vast.,seemingly endless environment.  It is easy to see why early sailors thought that the world was flat.  Kathy mused that she thought it looked small rather than vast, as the horizon all around us looks quite close – a’ a bit like sailing in a tea cup’ she said– O-kaaaay.  Carol said it brought to mind The Truman Show.

The crew are hoping that the trades will kick in very soon as progress is slow and fuel is disappearing too quickly!
