Gozwoz - ARC Rally Day 9 - Advent Calendar Day 2

So we have turned west at last! St Lucia on 2100nm away and the wind swinging into the north-east just like the trade winds! But we need a bit more wind than 8 knots! GOZWOZ is responding well with a steady 5 knots under full sail but at this rate we miss the important parties at the other end! However, the sea is flat and we have not yet experienced the joy of the "corkscrew" that is so often talked about on trans-Atlantic yacht voyages.
The crew seem happy although Sheena and Liz are planning pedicure, partying, caffeine martinis (?) and other necessary accompaniments of 21st century life to partake of at the other end. But the catering has been superb - Charles and I (now known as Chas and Dave - rabbit, rabbit) have been dined (note - not wined - dry boat) on a variety of salads and evening meals that could have come from some of the best restaurant kitchens - OK, a little OTT but we have had Argentinian sausage, Mexican sausage, Tortillas, corned beef hash, a rich tomatoey garlicky concoction and several other lovely meals.

We have had a little "mal de mer" - I didn't feel particularly well for a day or so and other crew members suffered as well. Now we are like salty sea dogs with no inhibition at preparing cuppas for all below deck.

I have to mention the fishing because Simon thinks I am not trying hard enough. When your basic knowledge is nearly zero on the topic and you are faced with lures, weights, lines, reels etc it is not surprising that I have yet to catch a fish. Not for the want of trying Simon but any advice welcome - and I am sure there will be!
We opened the Advent calendar yesterday - I know it is a thing to prepare us for Christmas but it did seem like the opening of a sweet shop! But who would open the first day? We drew cards for it and Chas won - today it was the turn of Sheena. The thought of chocolate is making my mouth water....

The daily connection with others via the SSB radio is a joy. Talking to Dan, Robbie, Tom, and others whose name I do not know is a joy because it makes the connection that you are not alone out here. I am one of the net controllers for the B group of yachts and really love the daily net call and gossip.

Well, so far so good. We hope the winds now settle down after decidely up and down weather and blow us all the way to St Lucia. More tomorrow.
