Easy Rider - Captain's LOG...Easy rider...Day 8

Yesterday was another "relaxing" day. We had light winds all day & not from a very good angle. When we set course for the Azores our speed was down to 4 kts, but when we set a more northerly course our speed increased to nearer 6 kts.......all in all a frustrating day but at least the sun shone all day. When Martin & Kristian arrived in the BVI they were as white as sheets after a long cold nordic winter, but now they have both aquired a good tan.

Our fishing is equally frustrating.....when we reeled the line in at sunset, after another fishless day, we discovered we had caught two small plastic bags.

So far on this trip we have hooked one whopper which smashed the tackle & that's after we upgraded to 100lb line & a wire tracer.....Another large fish swimming around sporting pink mouth jewelry!! Other than that we have caught nothing!!

On the plus side we were visited by some north atlantic wild life. First 4 dolphins payed us a  short visit before continuing they journey north. Next a few whales a mile or so behind us treated us to a display of trumpet blowing; it looked like columns of light grey smoke rising out of the sea. Then two turtles gave us a friendly wave as we sailed passed them.the highlight was yet to come. As Soy & I were in the galley preparing a lemon risotto, a large black whale swam passed us going in the opposite direction less than 50 metres away. (the boys thought that was a gin induced illusion- i wish!-Soy)

Dinner was as usual superb!! Lemon risotto with stir fried chicken & water chestnuts. A note on Soy's comment yesterday. The only reason she refers to her wine glass as a "thimble", is because at home she drinks red wine out of a glass the size of a bucket!!!

Today at last we have good wind in a near perfect direction......making over 8kts pointed straight at the Azores. Long may it last!!

David.

soy's note: a very very small bucket!
